If They Come for You in the Morning
Benefit Art Show for Daniel McGowan
Swoon
Newly available is a beautiful print by Swoon. Swoon said about this piece:
The piece I’m finishing tonight is of construction workers. I had the most fun. I don’t know why it never occurred to me to draw construction workers. Do you know that they’re building cities with their hands? I know it’s almost a dumb realization, but you see all the cranes and machinery and think that there’s some magic to it that you’re not getting. I watched the process for a while and saw that they’re just doing things up in the buildings with their wrenches. I would listen and hear the banging. Tok! Tok! Tok! Cities are still built by these guys who are putting it all together with their hands.Linoleum block print on semi-transparent mylar with a hand-painted background. Swoon prints each piece by hand, so every print is completely unique.
Swoon is a Brooklyn-based artist who has been bringing beauty to New York streets since 1999. Her work focuses on everyday people and the magic they carry in their hearts. Her work is currently on view at the Museum of Modern Art and the Brooklyn Museum.
Armsrock
Armsrock is an incredibly talented young street artist living and working in Bremen, Germany. His cutout figures are representations of everyday people and are rendered in his own gorgeous, delicate style. For more on Armsrock, see flickr or the Wooster Collective´s story on a mural he painted in Copenhagen:
I was in copenhagen, the town where i grew up, the town had a massive squatting scene throughtout the eighties and ninethies, and its legacy is still there. everytime i feel old and weary and be thinking that the kids are laying low, then they will be up to something new and crooked. anyhow, there is this house, which was squatted 20 years ago, and i have painted their stairwell, the biggest mural that i have ever done by myself and a good place for it to go. it is a house which has an important history for the scene (and the city) and i have a personal connection to the place and the people living their and the way of life that they try to represent.
